A Big Day Trip to Big Sky: Summer Edition

Posted by RSVP Hotel BZN on 6 August 19, 9:00 am

They call it Big Sky Country for good reason. Montana is filled with big fun under the big sky, but don’t be confused between the state’s common nickname and the township of Big Sky. A ski resort in winter and a natural playground in summer, this boujee hotspot for the rich and famous is an unbeatable day trip from Bozeman for Montana summer fun. Here are some of the top summer activities on offer in Big Sky.

Mountain Biking

The mountain biking trails in Big Sky are best for the adventurers out there who like to tear up some singletrack. You’ll find trails for all levels, but people come from all over the world to ride the chairlifts up and downhill it hard.

Ziplines

Flying through the forest canopy without having to break a sweat? Yes, please! If that sounds glorious to you too, then ziplines are the adventure you’re after. Adventure Ziplines with Big Sky Resort is designed for speed as the longest course in the Yellowstone region. You can even strap in alongside your sweetie on the twin line system and race your way down the line. The views of the Madison Range (including Lone Peak and the Spanish Peaks) will make your Instagram blow up. For a more chill pace, the Nature Zipline offers a slightly sedate and equally stunning option.

Hiking

Slip into your boots—and we don’t mean designer booties this time. Put some miles under your hiking boots with trails that will give you a taste of what Montana wilderness has to offer. The Gallatin Canyon carries trailheads all along its length. Once you’re up in the Big Sky area, Ousel Falls and Beehive Basin are eager to draw you to pristine trails. If you want to ease into the wilderness, hop on with a guided hike at the resort to go the group route and learn even more.

Tasting

Breweries are always the name of the tasting game in these parts. Lone Peak Brewery is named after the apex peak in the mountain range, and the quality of its brews rise to heights just as high as the mountain. At the heart of Big Sky Town Center, the ten-barrel brewery got its start in a time when Big Sky was the only North American ski resort without a craft brewery. Now it fills out that niche nicely with 14 brews on draft and a food menu that’ll make your mouth water.

If you’re ready to brewery hop, head over to Beehive Basin Brewery for that microbrewery flair. Seven barrels and an intimate vibe await in their taproom.

There are also opportunities to try out some of the vino at events like Pinot on the Peak and Vine and Dine. Or, you could attend local Big Sky competitions, like Pairsine (pronounced “Pair Zeen”), a fine food and wine pairing competition hosted by Wine Country Network, Inc. Whatever your beverage preferences, there are definitely a ton of options to fit your need.

Scenic Rides and Climbing High

You don’t have to be a hard-core sweat monkey to enjoy some scenic time at Big Sky. Take the Lone Peak team to the top of the mountain and stand above 10,000 feet with unrivaled views. At 11,116 feet, this is Montana’s highest scenic overlook. If you don’t like the sound of all that elevation, you can opt for an alternate scenic lift ride. To get a little more technical, take to the climbing wall in the resort plaza and put your scaling skills to the test.

Whichever route you choose, you’re making the most of the Big Sky. When it’s time to head back to Bozeman at day’s end for some bubbly and time by the fire, the RSVP is waiting! What events are you looking most forward to? Tell us in the comments below!
